WIND POWER - Rural Cooperatives producing wind power to sell back to the main western power grid.

The concept of rural land owners owning and operating their own wind turbines.
Clean power from a freely available energy source.
How would you like to see your meter run backwards?    Then check out small wind turbine technology.

However reluctantly, the U.S. Department of Energy has a department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
and they have a map of Colorado Wind Resources
Small Wind Turbine suppliers:

A Virginia company will spend between $250 million and $350 million to construct a wind farm near the town of Akron in rural Washington County, Colo.
Greenlight Energy Inc., of Charlottesville, Va., expects to begin construction early next year.

The Washington County Commission has granted approval for the project, which is forecast to supply energy for as many as 90,000 homes annually.
Three utilities have transmission facilities near the proposed wind farm, including Xcel Energy Inc.(NYSE: XEL) Colorado requires utilities to receive 10 percent of their electricity from renewable resources by 2015.

Energy versus Power

a kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power - the rating of a turbine is in kW

a kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy - your monthly energy bill is listed out in kWh

Green Tags are created when wind power or another source of renewable energy (like micro-hydro or solar) is substituted for traditional power.
The result is a shift away from our nations independence on burning fossil fuels to produce electricity.
Using clean and truly renewable energy produces NO emmissions, NO harmful carcinogens, and NO greenhouse gases.
Green Tags represent the renewable energy attributes of clean energy - the real savings in CO2 and other pollutants that occur when green power replaces the burning of fossil fuels.

As a renewable resource, wind is classified according to wind power classes (which are based on typical wind speeds)
The wind power classes range from Class 1 to Class 7.
